How did you come to your profession?
Through many coincidences and my love for music. I was actually about to become a musician, but my fellow musicians convinced me that I was better at photography than music.
What fascinates you about your work?
I think that in my job you need very different things that don't necessarily have anything to do with the original profession. You have to be able to tell stories, sense trends, lead teams, motivate models, understand customers and be able to take pictures.
Your view of the world as an artist?
My secret mission is to make every day a little bit more beautiful. I am happy if I can draw attention to the unseen and move something in the viewer. Fashion photography can also be quite entertaining.
What makes a good team, what does it stand for?
Good teams are well-rehearsed and react perfectly to external circumstances. As a fashion photographer you are enormously dependent on the team. When the right people for make-up, hair and styling come together on a shoot, half the picture is already in the can. There are often dozens of people on the set to photograph a single person. Team play is the basic prerequisite for a good job.
At our shooting it was the other way round, the team as motif.
Yes, team building was also needed there. It took the 15 models about half a day until they all reacted to small signs and the teamwork worked. It was a bit like a football team and I was the coach.
How did you chose the locations?
I wanted to photograph urban places to show the daily routine of a fictitious coloured group of people. The places should be architecturally exciting and together with the people they tell the story of the picture. Of course the grey was also important as a background to show the colour worlds of HAKRO to their best advantage.
Speaking of colour, what is your favourite colour?
You should rather ask what my favourite colour is at the moment, because it changes from season to season. At the moment it is orange, I ignored this colour for a long time, but now I am suddenly almost in love with it.
